Kent ran into my room as I was reading on my Kindle. He saw his train track on the floor and got down to start rolling the train cars around the track. Kyleigh soon came in and he got her to play with him...she's easily convinced as she likes having a buddy to run around with just as much as he.
Later, in the tub, Brenden and Kent were done washing up, so I left to grab Kent's pj's and let them play around in the water for a bit. When I come back, I hear Brenden telling Kent that the boat is in a rain storm! Watch out! And they carry on together...full on imagination going on...who knows: sinking ships? tough sailors? did anyone survive? I will never know. I forgot to ask them.
Kyleigh chose and set up the Lion King board game after I asked her what fun thing they wanted to do after homework was done. She had to wait an agonizingly long time for Brenden to finish his homework and for me to finish writing my thank you note to my parents for their Christmas gifts. (I was also looking into sports leagues schedules and pricing for the kids this winter season).
She saw me writing them a note, so she drew them a picture of kids playing at a pool and thought they could post her picture in their "pool aria".
I sent my family a picture text of some of Brenden and Kyleigh's spelling that came home in their backpacks this last weekend. It was pretty funny stuff. B wrote "cherofee" for trophy. Kyleigh wrote puncuwashune for punctuation and as I sounded out the letters, it made me smile. She also wrote caoint for count, and tramplein for trampoline.
Little Kent starting to talk and the older two starting to write stories (B brought one home he made up about a dragon and soldiers and people in a castle and the dragon can both breath ice and fire...and the dragon stole the people's baby so the people tried to trick the dragon to get it back...very clever). I kept that story and put it in my middle drawer of my nightstand to place in his baby book to keep forever.
I love being a Mom. I am so grateful I get to be present for all these great memories. How fleeting they are and how special because they are the pieces to each of their personalities.
Brenden said something to me after he got home from school that sure made me happy. I asked him what snack he wanted and told him how much I missed him while he was gone to school. He said he was so happy that I was his momma. I grabbed his face and said if I wasn't his mom, I would go search for him because I love him so much, I want to keep him. These kinds of things maybe stick with the kids longer than I think because many hours later, when they're going upstairs to get ready for bed, he yells down the staircase, "Mom, would you sell me for one thousand dollars?" I tell him no. Then he asks if I would for two thousand? I repeat my same answer as before. Maybe he just likes to know the dollar value I hold for him :) These kids sure are my favorite treasure.
Glad I get to have another one to climb onto my lap (like Kent did tonight as we watched 1 episode of Bugs Bunny before bed...because it was a motivation to shower quickly...and sitting right next to him wasn't close enough. Halfway through the movie, he climbed right onto my 8 month pregnant belly's lap). I loved it and just endured the 'crowded quarters' while it lasted.
It was a good day.
