My first resolution for this new year 2016, is to be a better 'recorder'. I'd like to make sure our family's history is written down and not forgotten. So many wonderful moments and memories happen and I swear to myself that I will never forget that...only to later regret it was not written down. So, here's to a better recorded 2016!
For New Year's day, Steph and John and their two girls were in town, so we took family pictures in my parent's den with their large floor to ceiling bookshelves as our backdrop. I loved that idea. Then our photographer had some cute ideas of having the grandkids underneath the desk with Poppy in the big chair and the rest of the grandkids all over him around the desk. Grandma and the grandkids went to the backyard and they all tried jumping in the air at the same time. Those pictures will be funny to view later to see which kids were successful and which ones only thought they got off the ground.
Then, we went to Grimaldi's for lunch while Court and Jared met his family for Dim Som (?). Then we went to Red Rock for some bowling fun. All the grandkids were on one lane with the bumpers up. Then Mom, Dad, Trent and I. Then John Steph, Maddy, Landon and Scotty on the 3rd lane. Dad and Steph were really good. They got about 120 range. I think I lost in my group. On our way out Scott and Dad just kept bowling everyone's turns. Scott got two strikes in a row. It was cool to see them enjoy it so much. I don't even remember the last time our whole family went bowling. Afterward we went home for kids to nap and the boys (John, Jared, Landon and Trent) went golfing. Mom, Steph and Court rolled out the gingerbread dough that Maddy had made and started cutting out little men, stars and house pieces. After they were almost done baking, the boys came home and we started making dinner for the kids. After they ate, we set out all the candies and frosting colors in bowls and let the kids go to town on the decorating. Some interesting creations for sure! The adults made the gingerbread houses for us to take to the shooting range the next day :)
The next day we met at 10 at my parents house to caravan down past Boulder city to find a shooting range. That way Steph and John could just take off for Phoenix right after. Jared brought his new shotgun and we all took turns having someone throw clay pigeons in the air and we try to shoot them down. Steph, Maddy and I all got 1. You get 2 tries, and we got 1 out of 2. John never got one :) I think Trent, Landon and Jared did. I can't remember if Scotty did or not.
We had our gingerbread houses, cardboard box and metal squirrel targets set up against a small hill. Dad set up his bullets and gun station on a white fold out table and we put on a movie inside Dad's car for the little ones to watch to keep warm and safe from open fire :) It was a real nice set up and a good time. After hugging the Cannons good-bye, we had leftovers for lunch at my parents and then went home to put Kent down for a nap and get some Saturday chores done at the house.
Monday: I carried in 2 cabinets and the homework station for the kids into the kitchen from the garage. I put the cabinets on our gray rug to slide it along the wood floor so I wouldn't scratch the flooring. Then I looked around and found some wood that looked like it could be the top of the cabinets. It fit! Then I found some wood that could be the cupboard doors for the cabinets. And they fit! So all we have to do is buy some hinges and connect the top shelf pieces and we have a custom kitchen unit :) Trent even liked it. Now we have to decide what color to paint it. It is unfinished. I also took the white end table that was in the downstairs bathroom with the bows and arrows inside the basket upstairs next to my nursing chair so I could put a lamp (that I got for free from Janessa Wilstead) and some books and when baby Dean arrives, it will be where i put his binky, burp clothes, etc. So handy!! I love it when I don't have to spend money and the decorating gets done. Then I pulled our Target $1 burlap mini table runner from our kitchen table to the entry way dresser and put our two candle pieces on each side, took a fake flower box with cream flowers inside off the entertainment center shelf and put that in the middle with a tiny picture of Kyleigh and Brenden on each side that I took from the window shelf in the kitchen :) It turned out looking very well pieced together....and all from various decor stuff that I had from different parts of the house. It was nice when Trent came home and he said he liked it. (I think he was most happy that I didn't spend a dime and I made the entry way look classy). :) Win-win for the Sorensen household!
Well, I'm off to my 32 or 34 week ultrasound. Can't wait to see this little baby kicking and rolling around inside of me on the big screen. I love him so much already!
